Planning for Guangzhou Trip (22 May 10 - 05 Jun 10)
Ok, to save me the need of asking each and everyone of you. I have decided to jot my rough plans down here so that you all can read and update.
I am organising a trip to Guangzhou and then from Guangzhou, I plan to proceed to Guangxi Province to go to liuzhou, Guilin, Sanjiang, Longsheng, Yangshuo and perhaps Nanning and onto the Vietnam border to see the Detian Waterfall. I'm still in the midst of planning so will update the full plans subsequently.
For now, I want to sort out the flight bookings first. For those who are interested, you can join us for the Guangxi trip from 22 May - 30 May. For a total of a 9 day trip, you will be required to take only 4 days leave as 28th May will be Vesak Day. For those who work on Sats, sorry that you need to take more days.
Anyway, initial flight details are as follows for those on a 1 week trip:
22 May, Sat, Tiger Airway, SIN - Guangzhou, 0620 - 1020. S$161.
30 May, Sun, Tiger Airway, Guangzhou - SIN, 1050 - 1450. S$221.
People on a 1 week trip are: Luling, Lunqing, Zhiming.
As for Shijia and Me, we are taking the following flights:
22 May, Sat, Tiger Airway, SIN - Guangzhou, 0620 - 1020. S$161.
05 Jun, Sat, Jetstar, Hong Kong - SIN, 2015 - 2350. S$136.
So when Lunqing, Luling, Zhiming depart Guangzhou on the 30th, Shijia and I will carry on to stay in Guangzhou perhaps till 2nd Jun and take the train to Shenzhen for a night. From 3 - 5 Jun, we will target to stay in HKG. Am aiming to check out this hotel call Butterfly on Prat. ~S$100 per night. If there is anyone who would like to link up with us in HKG from 3 - 5 Jun, please let me know.
I would like to now focus on the 1 week trip from 22 - 30 May. Upon arriving in Guangzhou, my initial plan is to take a domestic flight directly to Guilin. Well, I had checked www.ctrip.com this afternoon and the initial price was RMB260. When I was home, when I check, its still RMB260. However after I fill up all the particulars, the system said all tickets are sold out. When I retry, prices had increased. The same thing happen again until the prices reach a level, satisfied to the agent. I guess this is just a sale tactic. As such, I will be taking a risk here and will till the date is nearer, then I go and book the flight. It will be cheap if there are no takers for the seats and it can go as low as RMB170 per way.
Alternatively, we can take a 11hours bus from Guangzhou to Guilin for RMB160. I would suggest doing an overnight bus ride so that we can sleep on the bus and dun waste our day time which will be used for sightseeing. Besides, we can save on 1 night's accomodation.
Upon reaching Guilin where we will use as our base, we will of course tour the area. However, we will make day trips to Yangshou which is 1 hour away where we will visit some caves, rivers excursions. Should we be taking a bus from Guangzhou to Guilin, we will perhaps stop over in Yangshuo for 1 night first. Let me go plan and see how it goes.
From Guilin, we can go to Longsheng, which is further up north. There, you can see the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces which is a splendid sight, layering their way up till a 500m peak. There will be some trekking here which might take 4 hours and a visit to the hot springs if you guys want to.
From Longsheng, we can head to Ziyuan abt 1.5hrs for a wild rafting trip along the river. Otherwise, can see the Baoding Falls in Ziyuan also.
Alternatively, from Longsheng, we should head to Sanjiang Dong Minority Autonomous County. This is about 2 -3 hours away. Here, you can see the ethnic minorities. I believe most of you have not see the minorities before. Its like the aborginies. In Sanjiang, we can go check out the villages. If we have time, we can go from Sanjiang to Kaili, which is in the Guizhou Province, 3 hours away. Howeve, along the way, the journey will pass through some beautiful mountains.
Otherwise, we can head south to Rongshui where we can go see the Laozi Shan, or to the Yuanbao Shan which is 2100m high. From Rongshui, we head south to Liuzhou, 2.5hours away.
From Liuzhou, we can either head to Nanning, 2.5hours away, or if time does not permit, we go back to Guangzhou. Should we go to Nanning, which is west, we will then go to see the Detian Waterfall at the Vietnam border.
There are plentiful to do. The above just gives you an idea of what to expect.
Tips: Please travel light and bring like 3 dri-fit shirts and 1jeans etc. Expect to do your own laundry if you want to travel light. Yup, I did want it to be something like a backpackers concept, but I should perhaps phrase it as free & easy. But of course, due to budget constraints, I will propose we stay in some cheap hostel, which as a minimum requirement, will have clean sheets and a warm shower. I hope all of you can accept that. For some accomdation, I propose we will only book them when we arrive at the town itself. Don't worry. There should be alot of these accomodation available and I'm not worried about not getting one. This way, we get to see the actual condition before deciding. However, be prepare to do a little walking to check out the good deals for the accomodation.
Meanwhile, try to save up for the trip from now till May! I estimate, might cost abt $1200. Which for 8-9days, should be reasonable for the amount of entertainment we are getting.

Drama: Together
Have anyone watch this Drama by Channel 8: Together? 当我们同在一起?
This is really a very touching drama which I can relate to it in some ways, to see how my parents lived in the past etc...most of all, its the friendship that those kids have for each other...
many a times, i feel very touched by certain scenes...
《当我们同在一起》预告片首播

Since Monday, I've been waiting for Friday. Since August, I have been waiting for September. Haiz, I wonder how is my working life going to be for the next 30 years. How will it path out.
Sometimes, I just wish to fast forward my life by 10 years or so. Really wonder what it is like down the road....
Anyway, lets just enjoy this weekend before I head to KL next week for the audit which I hate to do the most for this entire 2009.
God bless me.
